I was visiting my parents and had the opportunity to hit up Publix with my dad. My dad is a good deal shopper considering he owned a corner store for over 25 years. He can spot a good price and is quick with his calculations. I guess that must be where I get it from. We decided to head to Publix to score some deals. The night before we went I sat down with both my parents to do our pre-planning and clip the necessary coupons. We stopped at Customer Service to find out if Target was one of their competitors. Sadly they were not, so we would not be able to use the Target coupons we had. They also do not double coupons which my store does. This threw a slight kink to our plans but I was confident we could still make things work in our favor. We did however score some Vlasic pickle jars, english muffins and Dole pineapple cans for FREE. Charmin and Bounty for $1.99, Right Guard deodorants for 50¢, Axe body sprays for $2. We also did several of the Buy 1 get 1 FREE deals. That week there was a gas card deal, spend $50 and get $10 off a $50 gas gift card of your choice. Who doesn't want $10 in FREE gas? We definitely took advantage of that. That is one deal I like doing because unlike the Visa, Mastercard or American Express gift cards there is no activation fee. We got all the items on our list and headed to checkout. The clerk rang up our items and announced our total of $179.08 and my dad looked at me in shock. I could see his heart was racing like OMG what have we done. He was doubting my judgement and I had to remind him to be confident and remain calm that we were not done. We shopped on a Wednesday which is senior discount day. That took 5% off the bill and I handed over our coupons. We had a total of 41 coupons on this shopping trip. After all of those were in I had my dad put in his phone number on the pin pad for the digital coupons. We saved $68.18 in coupons alone and $35.80 in sale items. Our total went down to $103.34 with tax and our clerk even commented on how great the savings were. He said "Your savings just keep rolling in". When they walked us out to our car to load our groceries the young man assisting us said "Since I know you like coupons and savings how about another one when you come back to see us". He handed my dad a coupon for FREE cereal for his next trip. Sure, we will take it and gladly come back we love to shop and save here....just like the slogan. We were not done yet. We still had rebates to add to our savings app. We saved another $13.25 there for a grand total of $90.08 and a happy dance was about to start. DAD: Wow! I was so impressed and came home happy as could be. I was bragging about all of my deals. My daughter is an expert couponer and I am delighted that she is teaching all of you how she does it. She showed me the power of coupons with our total savings at Publix being $109.82 off the regular price of all the items. I am ready to go do it all over again!

MARI: My local Publix has only been open open for a month but it's already my go-to grocery store. Aside from the friendly staff, the deals are pretty good too. I was really lucky that my sis was visiting that week and we headed out to the store together. I started with the pre-planning. We sat down with our coupons and circular in tow to write a list of deals I wanted to get. Vee is like a Jedi master when it comes to couponing. She went through the paper and highlighted deals that she felt were good and let me know what coupons were available from the Sunday paper, along with any printables and app rebates. I don't know how she remembers all this, but boy was I grateful she was there. I sorted out my coupons and added them to my coupon holder and we headed out to the store. At the store, Vee was on her game yet again. She pointed out items I had on my list that I had walked right past. I'm telling you, this woman is like a shopping machine. The trip was pretty uneventful until we reached the paper towels and toilet paper. There was another shopper grabbing all the available stock of paper towels that I was pretty oblivious about until Vee rushed me to grab my stack before she grabbed them all. Luckily, she left one for me but Vee's Spidey sense was on full alert and she rushed me to get to the other aisle to grab the toilet paper before my nemesis snapped it up. Boy was she right, she was racking up the toilet paper and I could not let her walk out with my deal. I swooped in as she was loading up a pack in her cart and grabbed the last one! When my nemesis turned around and saw I had grabbed the last one she stared me down and I ran to my cart to add to my pile of groceries feeling victorious. Who knew shopping was a sport? I felt even better when I hit the register and started cashing in my savings. My grand total was $91.94, sounds like a lot but I scored $11.00 in coupons and $54.25 in savings plus another $5 in rebates from my Checkout 51 app. Check out some of my best deals below: VEE:

We did the happy dance that day, not to mention you received a coupon for a FREE organic cereal on your next trip. For those in the local area, it is a pretty store with a lot to offer. Check back on Friday as dad and I conquer the weekly ad. Publix pharmacy programs stand out above all others and here is how.
